Can a full moon affect my baby’s sleep?

With tonight’s rare lunar event being called the “super blue blood Moon”, many mums have reached out to ask if the moon can affect their baby’s sleep.

Research tells us that during a full moon we take longer to fall asleep, spend less time in deep sleep, sleep for less time and are reported having poorer sleep overall.

“A full moon can prevent a good night’s sleep, affecting our ability to drop off and get high-quality rest once we have nodded off, researchers have found.

The study of 33 volunteers, sleeping in tightly controlled darkened rooms, took five minutes longer to fall asleep and slept for 20 minutes less when there was a full Moon.

The research also suggested that around the full moon, brain activity related to deep sleep dropped by nearly a third.” BBC – Pallab Ghosh

Because baby sleep is very much just the same as adults, we can conclude that a full moon affects our little ones sleep too.

Hang tight, it will pass.

With love and sleepy vibes (until the next full moon).
